The art
I draw trees that tell stories. In most cases my models are the giants I admire along my pathways. The drawings are Gestalt in nature, comprised of an amalgamation of inspired words and illustrations drawn with micron pens - .005 mostly. If you look closely, you’re likely to find something new with every glance.
Pen on paper is old-fashioned, like cursive writing, but as a medium it still endures. Ink is tight and permanent. The medium offers a sense of control where actually very little control exists. Most of the content in each piece is not pre-planned or penciled in ahead of time, but often what seems to flow from the pen onto the paper in the moment. I allow the characters and words to emerge on their own accord. The more authentic and personal I am with the work, the better the results. Sometimes what flows from the pen seems to come from someplace beyond me.
The drawings invite the viewer to take another look. From a distance it is a palm tree or an oak tree, but upon closer inspection the lines and points that create the texture are made up of whole other worlds, secrets, signs and encouraging messages. Like looking at cloud formations, something new emerges with every glance. My hope is the viewer finds just what they need to see in that moment.
