My first conscious memory of being an artist was the joy and freedom of finger painting
in my earliest childhood. That experience transported me to another realm, where I was totally absorbed in a moment of wonder, beauty, and intrigue.
I strive to create a tension between beauty and decay, figuration and abstraction, gracefulness and indulgence. I challenge the physical properties of the medium used
to portray my imagery. I may initially pull from the figure, but I allow my creative
intuitions to evolve the subject and evoke an array of emotional responses.
My inspiration often emerges from the harmonious expressive abstraction of nature through color, line, shape, and composition. However, I also explore the discord
between these forms in my paintings, drawings, and prints. This same discord is
also revealed in my renditions of portraits and figurative works.
I want my painting and drawing experience to be personally primal through my hand and my body.
