Emeline

ARTIST

The art

Emeline is known for her text-based artwork. For over twenty years her handmade sculptures have been cast from her proprietary molds. They are composed on canvas before being painted to look as if the piece is chiselled out of a single piece of stone. Each letter is made individually, making each piece unique.

Her sculpture "I Love Palm Springs" has been sold over twenty times. The first being created for a collaboration with poet Alex Gildzen.

Two Palm Springs businesses, Bar Cecil, and Holiday House, are known for their love of art, and Emeline is thrilled her artwork is in good company on their walls.

Five years ago, she digitized her 3D letters and started designing digital versions of her original artwork, this time utilizing a brighter palette. In 2021 she won a competition with Brit and Co X Bounty. They selected colorful, text-based prints to be printed on a line of paper towels. For over 10 years Emeline has licensed her artwork as digital prints on a variety of products. You can also see three of her public art pieces in Palm Springs.

The Material

Emeline grew up in a creative home on the South coast of England. As a child she loved baking, sewing, plaster casting, paper making, painting, writing, knitting, weaving and more. So, it makes her smile knowing that her artwork today encompasses most of these interests.

After Art School she received a degree in Fashion Design. While working for Ted Baker as a Technical Designer, in London, she discovered she had a desire to create art of her own.

Twenty years ago, she came to Palm Springs for the first time. Even though the desert is very different to the country she knew, she found something about about the desert and its community spirit reminded her of the English village she knew.

Emeline has an ideal set up where she can work, teach, and homeschool her children. Since November 2023 she has exhibited her work at Sammy Zelcer Gallery in the Perez Art District. In addition, find her work at Janssen Art Space, Palm Springs, and Grace Galleries, Laguna Beach.
