Digital Collages

An ongoing theme in my collage work is the use of vintage photographs of gay men in love during the early and mid 20th century.

In the recent past taking a photo of two men in love was an act of defiance. And if you were lucky enough to have a photo of you and your boyfriend, it was most likely concealed. This was a time when being gay was always hidden from families, friends and employers for fear of losing everything. Being gay meant you had to navigate back alleys and covert doorways just to be around other gay men.

My collages are a celebration of those long lost romances and secret loves. I use these vintage photos to create new memories that put a new light on those hidden relationships of the past. I want each collage to feel like someone has created a shrine to the memory of someone they loved and is putting it out there for the world to see with a sense of pride and dignity.

The collages are created digitally and printed on archival paper with archival inks.
Each printed collage is an edition of 20.
