ANNE BEDRICK

ARTIST

Artist Statement

For me, the beauty is in the imperfections, in the whispers, in the way the water quietly carries the pigment and in the almost-transparencies. My current work is about slowing down enough to see and appreciate the quiet beauty of how water settles.  It is an exploration of fragility, and a lesson in the way things open to you when you sit quietly with them.

The hard edges and/or pencil lines bring clarity to those watery whispers.  In each piece I incorporate a suggestion of order to help people more fully see what I am doing with the paint and water, how I am respecting what they do, and how I am partnering with them rather than subverting them.

Like much of my work, this work is a statement on being female.  The quiet looseness of the organic areas are a rebellion, a demand, asking you to pay attention to the depth and interest of the quietest passages.
